The Crab Orchard Kennel Club will host their 59th annual AKC Dog Show at the Pavilion in Marion.  Admission is $5, children 10 and under are Free.  Over 600 dogs representing more than 130 different breeds will be competing for the coveted title of Best in Show both days.  A judging program with breed ring times will be available at  There will be special clinics available by appointment only, concessions, and vendors selling dog-related items.  Only dogs entered in the show will be allowed in, no strollers or baby carriages will be allowed for the safety of children and dogs.

Solar Eclipse Yoga Class

Marion native, Lawrene O'Neill is leading a Yoga Class to help raise funds for Artstarts, a non-profit community arts organization.  O'Neill, an Artstarts Alum, is a 200-hour certified yoga instructor accredited through the National Yoga Alliance.  He has taught Yoga at the People Studios in Manhattan and Brooklyn for the last few years.  When he is home visiting Southern Illinois, he makes guest appearances teaching yoga at the HUB in Marion.  Lawrence is a very popular instructor and offers a great session for any skill level.  Participants may pre-register by confirming on the Artstarts Facebook Event Page.  Payments may be made either at the door or online.  Just indicate "Yoga Class" when making your donation.

Native American Indian Festival

Little Grassy United Methodist Camp (LGC), 8 miles south of Carbondale, Illinois, is located very near the center line of the Total Solar Eclipse that will be over Southern Illinois August 21, 2017.  In celebration of this event, LGC is hosting a weekend-long Native American Indian Festival with ceremonies of both traditional and religious nature, some of which have been performed for centuries surrounding celestial events such as this eclipse.  There will be drums, flute players, storytellers, a spirit fire, free crafts for the kids, and a Native American craft fair.  At times there will be two different stages going at the same time with varying experiences.
The event takes place Saturday, August 19th, Noon to Dark, Sunday, August 20th, 9am to Dark, and Monday, August 21st, 8am to 11am.  Single day tickets for adults are $20; children ages 5-10 are $10, children under 5 are Free.  Weekend passes are $45 for adults and $20 for children.  Those purchasing Monday tickets and weekend passes will be given free eclipse viewing glasses.  Limited tent camping is available for those purchasing weekend passes on a first-come-first-serve basis.  The festival will take place on the northside of our camp, 189 Campground Road, Makanda, IL 62958.

If you are not interested in the festival but still want to come and observe the eclipse, space is available on the southside of camp.  There will be plenty of space to set up chairs or spread out a blanket.  Registration to view the eclipse is required by August 7, 2017.  The $15 fee includes parking, a box lunch, and viewing glasses. Pappy's 2-Man SxS Triathalon

For the first time, Pappy's Outdoor will be hosting a 2-man side-by-side triathalon at Little Egypt Offroad just East of Marion. Three events, two drivers, one day. With cash and store-credit prizes given to the top three teams. 

The three events will be as follows:

Event 1: The driver will be blindfolded and the passenger will have to navigate the team through an obstacle course by voice instruction only.

Event 2: The passenger will be given a pail of water to hold on their lap while the team navigates a bumpy obstacle course. The faster you complete the course and the less water you spill, the better.

Event 3: The passenger will have a paintball gun, and the team will need a combination of speed through a course and accuracy shooting targets set up from various distances. 

The winner will be determined by overall time through the three events. Time penalties will be assessed based on different faults in each event. The same person cannot drive for all three events. 

$5 admission will be charged by LEOR.
