The Start! Walking program was launched by Southern Illinois Healthcare in collaboration with the American Heart Association to provide to a nice place to walk at local parks and paths across the community. Just look for signs with the green Start!
The walking path is approximately 0.6 miles, asphalted, mostly flat, well-lit, and takes an average of 16 minutes to complete.
This trail wraps around a pond located on the Northwest edge of Cannon Park, adjacent to the Harrison Bruce Annex/Carterville Community Center.
Runners and walkers are welcome; dogs must be on a leash while on the trail but can run their energy out at the Bark Park!
Amenities – Restrooms available. Â Park features a community center, baseball field, skate park, sand volleyball courts, playground, pavilion, gazebo, memorial garden, and pond fishing!
Bark Park – Sponsored by the Carterville Area Rotary Club, this dog park allows off-leash pups to roam free in a safe, fenced-in environment.
Hours – Lamp posts light the way around the trail at night.
