This statue and memorial wall remind us of the sacrifice that was made by many soldiers during times of war. Fallen Soldier Memorial Park is next to the railroad in the center of town. It was built around the sculpture created by local artisan, Jack Batts, who passed away in 1988. Batts, a world-renowned violin maker, had a shop in Johnston City.
Located on East Broadway in Johnston City, this memorial wall contains the names of local fallen heroes.
Johnston City has held the program for nearly 70 years. Along with addresses by local leaders, the ceremony includes a 21-gun salute by the Marion VFW Ritual Team and the traditional laying of the wreaths and reading of names for those residents killed in action.
