Educational Activities

“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery” -Mark Van Doren

This year, school may be anything but traditional. Thankfully, our community has come together to create some non-traditional innovations to help keep your kids involved and engaged!

Find educational and creative books at any of the regional libraries.

Our community libraries are offering a number of extra-curricular activities both in person and virtually! Marion Carnegie Library is offering story times, take and make craft projects, clubs, and more! The Anne West Lindsey District Library in Carterville is offering free monthly virtual Spanish lessons!  They have also created a virtual gaming group and they are doing virtual story times!  The Herrin City Library is also holding virtual story times as well as curbside pick-up for library card holders of any Southern Illinois library!

Craft away with on the go pottery painting!

Expression in Marion has a number of alternative learning opportunities! With creative learning, discovery time, and various workshops, your children can find the creative outlet they may be missing! Fish Tales Pottery also offers craft classes as well as take home paint projects!

Bring the family for some fun!

If your child is missing those fall time field trips, check out The Patch in Marion!  With u-pick pumpkins, hayrides, and a play area, your kids will have a great outlet for that extra energy! Whatever your child’s interests or their best learning methods, there are options for enriching everyone’s education in Williamson County!
