Black Settlements in Southern IL with Kimberly France

This content has been archived. It may no longer be relevant

Join local author Kimberly France as she discusses research on her recently published book “Black Settlements in Southern Illinois”.  Marion Carnegie Library offers the community a great opportunity to hear from a local writer and learn more about the history of Williamson County and its surrounding region.  This event is free to attend, no registration is required, but space is limited.
Born and raised in Carbondale, Kimberly France began researching her family lineage in earnest in 2020 upon learning of a relative’s terminal illness.  After 3 years of research and revelation, she penned the book “Black Settlements in Southern Illinois” to document critical pieces of Illinois history that aren’t well known.  Ms. France is an alumnus of Howard University and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
