The Natives

The Natives Band was formed in the early 90’s as a group of friends just jamming whatever was fun. Throughout the 32 years there have been a few member changes. Currently the band consists of five main members. Richard Stallwitz who also goes by Dr. Ted performs bass and vocals. He moved to Southern Il. in the mid 80’s as a student of SIU and never left. Ted performs with a variety of other bands as well. Fiddlin Joe Stafford performs guitar, fiddle, mandolin, vocals and moved to Southern Il in the late 70’s. He found local players and is here to stay. His influences are Jazz, Rock and Bluegrass. Ross Bergseth performs keys, guitar and vocals. His music interests are of a wide variety too broad to list. Charlie Morrill-drums, percussion and vocals is a longtime resident of Southern Il. who has performed with local greats like, The Dixie Diesels, The Dave Roberts Band, Four on the Floor, St. Stephens Blues Band and the Ivas John Band. Ray Maring performs guitar, dobro, mandolin, and vocals. His musical interests are also of a wide variety. Ray began playing guitar in 1979 and was mainly influenced by bluegrass. Over the years he has become versed at other instruments. All of the members write and produce original music and as well put their own creative spin on cover tunes.
