Holiday Shopping
With the holidays fast approaching, ’tis the season…to start shopping! November 26th marks Small Business Saturday. This is an event that encourages shoppers to purchase from small businesses in their communities. We are fortunate to have a plethora of small, locally-owned stores and services in our area. In Southern Illinois, over 50% of the region is made up of small and medium-sized businesses. The impact of shopping at a small business over a chain is notable; on average, 48% of each purchase is recirculated locally -compare this to only 14% at a chain store. Small businesses have also generated 66% of all new jobs in the United States since 1995. By supporting local businesses, we are supporting our community.
By supporting local businesses, we are supporting our community.”
There are many events happening over the next two months to encourage shoppers to explore local businesses. Magpie Market Days – 2022 Christmas Market (The Pavilion), JALC 46th Annual Autumnfest Arts and Crafts Show (Marion Oasis Event Center), 4th Annual Holiday Shop Hop (Downtown Marion), Mistletoe Market (Carterville), and numerous Holiday Open Houses are but a few opportunities to explore and shop from local vendors; we will continue adding events to our website all season.
But what to buy? Unsure what to get a special someone in your life? Unfamiliar with the offerings of each shop? We’re here to help! Browsing our Shops directory can give insight to what some stores offer, and we have also compiled Gift Guides that are listed below!
