MARION, Ill. – Top-seeded Quincy University dominated from start to finish in the 2023 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Baseball Championship game, taking down No. 6 Drury University 13-6 at Mtn. Dew Park on Sunday.

The league crown is the fifth in the sport for the Hawks, with their last Conference title coming in 2018. Quincy earns the automatic-qualifying bid to the 2023 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional tournament, which starts on May 18.

The Hawks waited no time to start the scoring, as Nolan Wosman recorded an RBI hit-by-pitch and Austin Simpson ripped a two-run single to give Quincy a 3-0 first-inning lead. They continued to pour on the offense with six runs in the fourth, highlighted by Lance Logsdon’s bases-clearing double. This nine-run cushion would prove to be unsurmountable for Drury, as the Hawks claimed a 13-6 victory and the GLVC title. Simpson and Logsdon accounted for the majority of Quincy’s offense from the middle of the order, combining for seven hits and nine RBIs. Graduate student Jay Hammel was solid on the mound for the Hawks, allowing just two runs over six innings of work. The trio of Roman Harrison, Cruz Meier, and Chase Gockel registered a total of 2.2 scoreless innings out of the Hawks’ bullpen.
