The Start! Walking program was launched by Southern Illinois Healthcare in collaboration with the American Heart Association to provide to a nice place to walk at local parks and paths across the community. Just look for signs with the green Start!
Enjoy this 2.14-mile loop with numerous slopes. Trail takes approximately 45-55 minutes to complete, depending on pace.
The nature trail winds around the Arrowhead Lake and is adjacent to the Campground.
Walkers, hikers, trail runners, and bikers are welcome. Pets are welcome, too and must be kept on a leash.
Amenities – Restrooms are open year-round; water fountains are available during the summer months. Benches are provided for resting along the path. Bring a picnic and enjoy the playground as well!
Wildlife – Along the trail, catch a glimpse of wild turkeys, deer, raccoons, squirrels, ducks, geese, and many species of birds along with various wildflowers scattered throughout the area. Grab a fishing pole, bait, and relax along the 35-acre reservoir filled with largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, black and white crappie, and channel catfish!
Hours – The trail is open from sunrise to sunset.
