TEE TIME: Golfing in Williamson County

Hey friends! The sun is shining, the grass is green (finally), and you know what that means—golf season is officially back in Williamson County! If you’re in Williamson County, Illinois, then you already know we’re kind of spoiled when it comes to golf. We’ve got four amazing courses, each with its own vibe, killer views, and challenges. If you’ve been hibernating all winter, it’s time to dust off those clubs, break out your favorite polo, and hit the greens. And let me tell you, if you’re in or around Williamson County, you’re in for a serious treat. We’ve got some absolutely awesome courses around here—like, Travel + Leisure kind of awesome. Whether you’re a total newbie or a short-game wizard, there’s a course with your name on it.

🌟 Kokopelli Golf Course – Marion, IL

Let’s start with the big one. Kokopelli is seriously one of the crown jewel of the area. This 18-hole, par 72 beauty is semi-private, but don’t let that intimidate you—it’s super welcoming and was even named one of “America’s Best Courses for $100 or Less” by Travel + Leisure.

It’s got five sets of tees (bless), new latitude Bermuda grass that feels like putting on a cloud, and greens that roll like a dream. Booking online is a breeze, and if you’re planning to be out here a lot this season (which, let’s be real—you are), they offer a variety of membership options, including one made just for young adults. Safe to say, it’s a must-play.

✨Stardust Golf Course – Johnston City, IL

If you’re into that cozy, small-town vibe, Stardust is your go-to. It’s a 9-hole course that covers just under 3,000 yards and packs a punch. Designed by architect George Jansco, this place is sneaky-challenging and crazy pretty.

With a par of 36, it’s the perfect setup to squeeze in a round between classes or just relax with friends on the weekend. Oh—and they’ve got a 10 tee driving range, so if you’re like me and need to “practice” (read: hack at the ball for an hour), they’ve got you covered!

🌳 Crab Orchard Golf Club – Carterville, IL

Looking for variety? Crab Orchard is where it’s at. It’s a par 70 course with water hazards on nine holes (so, yeah… bring extra balls). The course winds through massive oak trees, and the fairways are lush and green thanks to Myers Zoysia and Westwood Bermuda grass—fancy!

They’ve got five tee options, making it perfect for literally anyone. Plus, there’s a driving range, practice green, and even private lessons with a PGA Pro if you want to level up your game. Bonus: it’s super easy to find, right off IL Highway 13 near I-57.

🌲 Pine Lakes Golf Course – Herrin, IL

Last but definitely not least, we’ve got Pine Lakes—an 18-hole, par 71 course that blends traditional golf with modern vibes. I’m talking a high-tech Foresight Simulator (hello, rainy-day practice), Bentgrass greens, and a clubhouse that’s got everything from snacks to showers.

And if you’re planning a birthday bash or maybe just a relaxing get-together with friends, their banquet space and bar are A+ for hanging out and celebrating.
