Gather, Give, and Be Grateful: Thanksgiving in Williamson County

November in Williamson County is all about gratitude for family, friends, community, and the simple joys that make Williamson County Illinois such a warm place to call home. As the leaves settle and the air turns crisp, there’s no better time to slow down, give thanks, and celebrate the season surrounded by good company and great food.
Whether you’re gathering around the table, helping those in need, or just soaking in some local fun, there’s plenty happening this month to remind us what Thanksgiving is all about.
🍂 Give Thanks by Giving Back
Thanksgiving is more than just turkey and delicious food, it’s about sharing what we have. The Revival Fire Tabernacle will host a Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway on November 18th, offering meals to families in need. It’s a wonderful opportunity to lend a hand or simply spread kindness this season. Even small gestures, donating canned goods, volunteering at a local pantry, or paying it forward at a coffee shop can make a big difference for someone’s holiday. “We will be handing out boxes of all the things you need to make a delicious Thanksgiving meal for your family. This is first come, first serve and ONLY ONE BOX PER VEHICLE. This is a drive-thru pickup only. Boxes will be handed out at 5:30pm at Revival Fire Tabernacle in Marion.”

If you’re looking to continue that spirit of giving, the Carterville Annual Thanksgiving Dinner is another heartwarming community tradition that brings people together to share food and fellowship. It’s proof that Thanksgiving in Williamson County is as much about connection as it is about celebration. “The Annual Thanksgiving Dinner is hosted each year at the Carterville Community Center at 120 North Greenbriar Road, Carterville. Hours for this event are 10:30am-1pm with eat-in, carryout, or delivery available. This free community event is open to the public, we just ask that you call the Carterville Water Department at (618)985-2011 to make a reservation.”

A Heartfelt Holiday Tradition
The City of Herrin is once again bringing the community together for its annual Mayor Ed Quaglia & Attorney Bart Mann Memorial Thanksgiving Dinner on November 27 at the Herrin Civic Center. From 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. (or while meals last), families can enjoy a free holiday meal with all the classics. Guests are welcome to dine in, swing through the back-alley drive-thru, or even request home delivery, making it easy for everyone to enjoy a comforting Thanksgiving meal no matter their situation.
Volunteers play a huge role in this event each year, and anyone interested in helping out can email [email protected]. Homebound residents can also arrange meal delivery by calling the Herrin City Clerk’s Office by noon on November 26.
