Southern Illinois Music Festival

Southern Illinois Music Festival features over three dozen performances at various venues throughout Southern Illinois.  Professional musicians from North and South America, Europe and Asia perform orchestral and chamber music, opera, ballet, jazz and new music in and informal and inviting atmosphere.  Join in for a great season of music at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center. The theme for the 2017 season is “An Offer You Can’t Refuse”. 
 

On Monday, May 29, 2017, the 60-piece Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra and a 30-voice Chorus will present a special Memorial Day concert, featuring patriotic music and a salute to America’s armed forces. The concert takes place at 7pm at the brand new Marion High School Auditorium, and admission is FREE. The program will include the 1812 Overture, a musical setting of the Gettysburg Address, the Battle Hymn of the Republic, Aaron Copland’s stirring Fanfare for the Common Man, music from the Band of Brothers, God Bless America and the Armed Forces Salute.

The 60-piece Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra and two fabulous instrumental soloists will present three orchestral concerts featuring the music of Antonin Dvorak and Peter Tchaikovsky on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, June 2, 3 and 4, 2017 at the Carterville High School Performing Arts Center. The concerts include the 6th symphonies of Dvorak and Tchaikovsky, Dvorak’s incredible Cello Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic Violin Concerto. Violin and Cello soloists are longtime SIFest musicians, Michelle Skinner and David Peshlakai. All three concerts take place at 7:30pm. Admission is $20 general and $8 for students of any age.

If you haven't already heard, this is the weekend of the Total Solar Eclipse!  Southern Illinois is the best place in the "WORLD" to see it.  It is estimated that over 300,000 people will be coming to experiance this event.  Pickers Outlet Mall wants to give travelers fun things to do while they are here visiting so, we decided to have a Big Flea Market.  We have 10 acres of flat grassy land to set-up and have conveniant parking for our customers.  There will be porta-potties, music and one of Southern Illinois' Finest, BIG BLUES QUE Barbeque!  Please let us know ASAP if you would like to set-up so we have an idea how many are coming.

Southern Illinois Irish Festival

The Celtic Fair will feature two outdoor stages both days, with performances by Saint Louis-area Irish and Scottish groups like The Wee Heavies, The Brianna Brown Band, Buckley & Walsh, and Celtica, along with Southern Illinois Celtic bands The Dorians and Roisín Dubh, and the local ensemble Heart Strings.  The Sunday lineup also includes some popular regional Americana bands.  The Festival includes food and drink for sale, merchandise vendors, Scottish Highland Games, bouncy houses for children, an Irish children’s village, piper Sean Folsom, Magic Storyteller Chris McBrien, and Liam the Extra-Large Leprechaun.
 
Admission is $10 for adults and Free for children under 18.  Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
